Description and Accomodation

VESSEL DESCRIPTION / ACCOMODATIONS

“GranKito” is hull number 1 of the Nordhavn 64 series. She has exquisite Dee Robinson interior. She is outfitted with the finest marine equipment and proven as an offshore cruiser whose experienced owners have cruised the East Coast, Caribbean, the West Coast of South and North America (Chile to Alaska) all while meticulously maintaining her. Her owners have maintained and operated “GranKito” to the very highest of standards.

General Arrangement

The teak wood was selected from old world logs, which is no longer available. Extensive raise panel work was beautifully executed by PAE’s best master joiners. In fact it took longer to build “GranKito” interior than hull number two.“GranKito” was built as a forward pilothouse model with the full asymmetrical saloon or known as a wide body. Enter from the cockpit through the aft salon door. All lights throughout the boat are on dimmer switches. The interior wood is teak with a satin finish, New Zealand wool carpet lies throughout with a settee, dining table and two chairs to port, and two barrel chairs to starboard with a custom built-in seat in between. Joiner work to starboard provides a lot of storage space and houses the large flat 50” Samsung screen TV on a lift (new 2019). The galley is forward of the salon, and has all of the accouterments for the most accomplished cook. “GranKito” has granite flooring in the galley, teak and holly flooring in the pilothouse and stairs and all heads have marble flooring. Extensive sound attenuation measures add to comfort onboard. The salon and galley soles are constructed using a 2″ Nida Core system. The salon carpet has a ¼” Sundown de-coupler layer and a 5/8″ rubber underlay that is the heavier 2 lb. per ft.

To starboard are the easy access steps down to the owner’s stateroom and also steps that continue down to the engine room, captain’s stateroom and full head. Just inboard of the steps down are the steps up to the pilothouse. The steps themselves are inlaid with Vetus synthetic anti-skid material (they have an anti-skid finish in the varnish). The master stateroom spans the full beam of the boat where it is situated. It has a king size bed, open space and a lot of storage space organized in drawers and lockers. There are two large cedar lined closets. There is a makeup table to starboard. This cabin has port and starboard redundant air conditioning units. Large opening ports flood the stateroom with light and provide cross ventilation. There is a master head ensuite with a large stall shower, toilet, granite-topped vanity, and marble sole. There is also access to the guest staterooms forward from the master as well. Ensuite access to the bunk room head provides, when that stateroom is unoccupied, a 2nd head to the master stateroom. The cabin’s unique A/V system was installed 2019.

Leading forward and out of the master into a hallway there is access to the two guest staterooms. The hallway also serves as a landing from the forward steps down from the pilothouse. Beneath the landing there is access to a large mechanical and storage space – somewhat akin to having an amidships lazarette – with water system components, and further access to gray and black water system components.

The starboard guest stateroom has two single beds (over – under). The lower bed has drawer storage below it and locker storage above. There is also a large hanging locker forward of the berths, with wardrobe drawers below.

The port guest stateroom has a queen style bed with drawer storage under and large hanging closet forward. There is also access to the forward head. Below the sole of the port guest stateroom there is another larger mechanical space that actually has enough room to store five gallon buckets of fluid in addition to gaining good access to the mechanical components installed there.

The pilothouse is, simply stated, a comfortable place to gather and spend time on longer passages, or as a dining area with a view. There are two adjustable Stidd helm chairs, and a beautifully displayed “glass bridge” instrument array featuring four (4) 21.4″ displays among the other navigation/communication electronics mounted there. To starboard is a desk with swing chair. Just aft of the helm chairs is a dinette that can accommodate four to six comfortably. Just aft of the dinette is the watch berth, a great feature for off-watch crew or overflow sleeping.

From the port forward section of the pilothouse there are steps down to the forward guest staterooms or to the forward entrance to the master stateroom as well. In the starboard aft section of the pilothouse there are steps providing interior access to the flybridge.

Continuing down the steps from the salon past the master stateroom is an expansive crew cabin which has a lower double and upper single bed, hanging locker with a full day head, its own washer and dryer (new 2019) and huge amounts of storage.

Long Range Capability

With a waterline of just less than 60 feet, “GranKito” has a high cruise speed of 10.5 knots and at 9 knots, her range is nearly 3,000 nautical miles. Her hull form, a refinement of Nordhavn’s Full Displacement design, features fuller aft sections that reduce “squatting” and pitching motion while increasing static stability.

Main propulsion is provided by a MTU Detroit Diesel Series 60 diesel engine that turns a 3 1/2-inch Aquamet shaft via a 3:43:1 reduction Twin Disc transmission. This amount of reduction allows the 44″ prop to turn slowly, greatly reducing noise and vibration. A dry exhaust and keel cooling, a signature design element of most Nordhavns, eliminates the need for a large through-hull and raw water pump, greatly reducing the risk of failure at sea.

A Lugger 1064A wing engine with its own shaft, 3-blade Gori folding prop, fuel system and battery is designed to move the N64 at 4-5 knots in normal conditions and to make headway in rough seas should an emergency cause a loss of power from the main engine or power train. This “get home” system has proven to be the most foolproof of all types of systems used for this purpose, and it has become a signature Nordhavn feature.
