Originally from the UK, James learned to dinghy sail at an early age in England, but grew up on the North shore of the Firth of Forth in Aberdour, Scotland. ”I remember coming home from school and running down to the harbour to launch my dinghy every time the tide was right. It was the only sport I loved and the only thing that I really did well! At age 13, he was teaching at his sailing club. At age 15, he bought a Flying Fifteen to race. At age 17, he went to boat building college in Cornwall. Then, at 19, he helped build and sail a Shuttleworth 63 from Bristol, UK to St Martin, WI. At age 21, James bought a hunter 701 and cruised around the English Channel, French Coast and UK Channel Islands.

James worked for the Hamble School of Yachting getting his YachtMaster 200 Ton License at the age of 21 and built his company Yacht Tech in Hamble, UK until he landed a job as a Captain in the Caribbean at age 23. James then spent 5 years cruising between Trinidad and Maine, finally landing in the Palm Beaches in 1999 to be with his wife Janice and work on Nordhavn Trawlers for P.A.E.(Pacific Asian Enterprises). He now resides in Florida with sons Alex, Eric, Matthew and Justin. Since then, James started Yacht Tech, Inc., servicing and selling Nordhavn yachts worldwide.

Jay Flaherty was born in Scranton, PA.  His family moved to Mattapoisett, MA when he was just 7 years old.  Boating on Buzzard’s Bay, around Cape Cod and the Islands became a regular family past time.  During these formative years, sailing, navigation and boat handling became one of Jay’s passions.  As a teenager, Jay began racing sailboats, and at the age of 19 participated in his first Bermuda Ocean Race on his family’s 37 Valiant Esprit sailboat.  With over a dozen Bermuda races under his belt, Jay has experienced firsthand how important preparedness of the vessel as well as its crew truly is.

“My parents made the typical transition from sailing to a trawler, and purchased their first Nordhavn.  Experiencing the seaworthy nature of a Nordhavn along with the beauty of the yacht and the many amenities it has to offer, it didn’t take me long to tell my parents they made an excellent choice.”  Jay came to work for Yacht Tech in November of 2016 after his retirement of 24 years in the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer.  17 years of being a Navy recruiter along with being Irish, Jay has never met a stranger and quickly develops rapport with just about everyone he meets.  After 8 moves in 24 years, Jay and Victoria are happy to be settled in Palm City, FL. with two of their children Jacob and Hagan.  Daughter Madison lives in State College, PA with her husband Evan.

Mark D. Welsh (MDW as friends refer to him) recently joined the Yacht Tech Team covering the mid-Atlantic region.  Mark lives in St. Michaels, MD on the Chesapeake Bay’s beautiful eastern shore and spends considerable time cruising the waters of the bay and beyond with friends and former customers.   Mark has been boating most of his life and, after a successful corporate career, had the opportunity to follow his passion for being on the water, turning his love for boating into a new career. In addition to representing both buyers and sellers for Yacht Tech Sales, Mark is a Sail Consultant for Quantum Sails and leverages his USCG Master Captain’s License to provide charter captain and delivery services.

Mark’s unparalleled commitment to customer service and friendly demeanor aligns perfectly with Yacht Tech’s philosophy of building lasting friendships and not just having customers. Mark enjoys working one-on-one with clients post-sale to ensure they become intimately familiar with their new yacht.

Hailing from London, England, Andy travelled the globe before returning to England to begin his career in the legal profession. As a business co-owner, Andy excelled in the marketing, client care, and growth of the company, overseeing and opening additional offices in London and Nottingham. Moving to Florida in 2003 with his comprehensive experience in negotiation and customer service, Andy’s transition over to yacht sales was an easy one.

Andy worked with Pacific Asian Enterprises / Nordhavn Yachts for 15 years as a sales broker and in addition, from 2007, managed the company’s regional south east operation in Stuart, Florida.

Andy strives to maintain a successful lifelong relationship with his clients, ensuring a stress free and fun experience. He has a wealth of knowledge on each stage of ownership and having dealt extensively in brokerage sales, on both sides, he can assist and guide clients on their boat purchase. From identifying the perfect yacht all the way through to the eventual marketing and sale. Satisfaction for both buyers and sellers is the ultimate goal.

Tony comes to Yacht Tech with over 30 year’s experience from working at ABT-TRAC. James Knight and Tony have known each for over 20 years and they have collaborated on many different ABT-TRAC projects. While with ABT-TRAC, Tony has been everything ABT, from machining, help designing, building, testing, installing and servicing all things TRAC. For the last 16 years, with Tony and his family based in Florida, he has traveled the world working on all yachts out there equipped with ABT-TRAC. As European service manager, Tony has developed colleagues throughout Western Europe, Scandinavia and the Middle East and we are grateful to improve our worldwide service with Tony’s addition to Yacht Tech Inc. ABT-TRAC’s reputation for outstanding equipment, technical support, training and customer service has been instrumental to the success of our service department, and we are honored to work with such professionals.
