Nordhavn 64

In the market for a Nordhavn 64?

After NORDHAVN 55 was introduced, closely following the launching of the recent 43, 47 and 72, the company Pacific Asian Enterprises (P.A.E) keeps on strengthening its pioneering reputation in providing full-displacement, long-range passage makers with the NORDHAVN 64. The vessel’s design showcases the newest style introduced by the company, incorporating its innovative approach to the creation of ultra spacious accommodations.
Jim Leishman, P.A.E’s vice president said: “The popularity of the 47, together with the positive feedback to the 55, has confirmed our assumption that our customers are interested in having more convenience and more living space while cruising. The challenge, then, is to offer these comforts while keeping offshore capability on the boats”. He continued: “Our 64 provides an amazing amount of interior space, with the capability to cross any ocean. Due to the modern systems onboard, she can easily be handled by a qualified couple, thus removing the need to pay an entire crew.” The vice president, who is a naval architect at the same time, added: “I am extremely pleased with the result of the design of Nordhavn 64. It draws several elements of the model designs, but it is also elegant and beautiful in its own unique way. I can say that the N64 is almost perfect.”

Nordhavn 64: Beautiful, Big, and Seaworthy

Aside from the pretty obvious advantage of offering more volume from below, there are other sea-keeping benefits to the deck and high bow level. For one, the deck takes less green water in higher seas while the bow offers extra buoyancy when traversing through large head seas. Since the additional height offers more volume beneath the sole of the cabin, the fuel tanks, the engine, as well as the water tanks are in a very low position, thus ensuring superior stability, thus being very easy to use. It is also equipped with fiberglass fuel tanks, which are corrosion-free and features human-sized inspection plates. This adds to the hassle-free and long-lasting service of the vessel.

Extra Space for Accommodation inside the Nordhavn 64
As with all other Nordhavns, the N64’s main saloon directly opens to the aft cockpit, efficiently expanding to the outside living area. At the same time, the asymmetrical cabin provides a wider main saloon featuring a wide side deck on its starboard side. There are also two areas for seating, which features tables and settees, as well as a big lounge chair.

A 42” plasma TV can be installed as an option on a hide-away lift system, including an optional Bose sound system for maximum entertainment. There are three bar chairs facing the countertop at the galley, just forward to the saloon.

This galley is definitely a rival to many gourmet kitchens these days, with its full-sized home-style appliance, generous counter space, and abundant storage cabinets. The standard equipment includes a 4-burner GE (General Electric) oven and stove, Sub Zero side-by-side refrigerator/freezer (w/icemaker), GE microwave/convection oven, Miele dishwasher, GE trash compactor, and two U-Line front-load freezers which is located in the utility room.

The owner’s stateroom is situated amidships, making it less prone to motion at passages and during anchor. A walk-around, king-sized berth, a desk area, two huge hanging lockers, and a master head finished with tiled sole can be compared to that of a finest hotel suite. There are two guest staterooms, one with twins (sharing a large head), and one with a double berth.

Pilothouse with an Amazing View

The Nordhavn 64’s pilothouse is commercial-like and is situated amidships, making it safe against motion at sea, thus providing quality, 360-degree visibility. There are two full-sized help chairs, which comfortably seat the captain the mate while in command of the ship, with all the controls and electronics within reach and sight.

A table and settee, aft of the helm chair, elevated for best visibility, has the capability to seat four members of the crew. Below the settee are full-sized chart drawers, as well additional charge. Above and aft the settee will introduce you to a double-sized pilot berth, which is helpful for the off-watch crew for long passages.
The standard design of Nordhavn 64 is offered with a flying bridge that is spacious. It is directly located above the pilothouse, which will serve as the social center when the weather is fair. The flying bridge has a U-shaped settee and a table that can seat four, a Stidd helm seat, and a Norcold drinks refrigerator.

Longer Range Capability

Since the Nordhavn’s waterline is under 60-feet, it comes with a high cruise speed of 10.5 knots in full load conditions. With this speed, this vessel has a range of 1600 nautical miles. Her range increases to almost 3,000 nautical miles at 9 knots. The N64’s hull form is a refinement of the Nordhavn’s MFD (Modified Full Displacement) design, featuring fuller aft sections, reducing pitching and squatting motion while static stability increases.

The main propulsion is offered by a John Deere 6135AFM 425 hp diesel engine, which can turn a 3 ½-inch Aquamet shaft through a 3:43:1 reduction Twin Disc transmission. This reduction amount enables the 44” prop to slowly turn, significantly reducing vibration and noise. At the same time, it comes with a dry exhaust, which is a standard design of most Nordhavn models, reduces the need to have a large through-hull, as well as a raw water pump, thus reducing failure risk at sea.

A John Deere wing engine that comes with its own folding prop, shaft, battery, and fuel system has been designed in order to move the vessel at 4-5 knots in standard conditions, making headway in rough seas if ever an emergency results to a loss of power from the power train or main engine. This system proves to be the most foolproof among all system types for this purpose. It has definitely become a signature element of the Nordhavns.
